What goes on in the mind of a child? What role does the child play in his or her family? How do children interact with each other? Many of the works in the collection of the Städel Museum focus on childlike behaviour full of endless curiosity, innocence and joie de vivre. But there are also pictures which address the fears and challenges of being a child. We can likewise trace the changes that have taken place in the way young people have been treated across the centuries.
