Son of sculptor Karl Albiker, Carl Albiker first studied art history in Leipzig, Munich and Marburg as from 1925. From 1928 to 1930, parallel to his studies, he trained as a photographer at the Lette-Verein in Berlin. After receiving his doctorate in art history in 1933, he was appointed head of the photographic department of the art history seminar in Marburg in 1934. In the same year he joined the NSDAP. Following the outbreak of the Second World War, he was stationed in France and Holland as a photographer with the Wehrmacht in 1940/41, documenting architectural monuments. After the war ended, he moved to Karlsruhe in 1946. He held a teaching position in the architecture department of the Technical University there from 1949 until his death.
