Jacopo Bassano

Jacopo dal Ponte, called Jacopo Bassano, was born in Bassano del Grappa around 1510 or 1515. He trained under his father, Francesco, and shortly after 1530 (?) in Venice under Bonifazio de' Pitati. In 1539 he took over the workshop in Bassano. He was the founder of a painting dynasty. A rich palette of local colours expanded after 1550 to include a pronounced chiaroscuro. He died in Bassano del Grappa in 1592.
