Giovanni Battista Castello, called Il Genovese (born in Genoa ca. 1547; died in Genoa in 1637 or 1639): worked as a miniature painter as early as 1577, regularly documented with works from 1580; around 1583-1585 in the service of King Philipp II in Spain (choir books for the Escorial monastery); possibly put in touch by Luca Cambiaso with the exemplary miniature painter Giulio Clovio, some of whose drawings he owned.
