With holdings of some 100,000 drawings and prints dating from the late Middle Ages to the present, the Städel’s graphic art collection is among the most prominent of its kind in Germany. In addition to examples by Dürer, Raphael and Rembrandt, its highlights also include Nazarene drawings, French sheets of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, and works by Max Beckmann, the German Expressionists around Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, post-war American artists and others. The holdings are presented in special exhibitions or made available for individual viewing in the Study Room during special opening hours.
