Giovanni Antonio Dosio (born in San Gimignano in 1533; died in Caserta, Naples, in 1611): in Rome from roughly 1548; training under the sculptor Raffaello da Montelupo. His influential series of engravings of Roman views ('Urbis Romae aedificiorum illustrium quae supersunt reliquiae') appeared in 1569; 1575 to 1589 in Florence, mainly as an architect, later worked for a longer period of time in Naples; extensive studies of antiquities and excavations.
