Rodney Graham was born in Abbotsford, British Columbia, in 1949. He studied art history at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver from 1968 to 1971 and then at Simon Fraser University from 1978 to 1979. Since 1970 the conceptual artist has created works in the most varied mediums, including photographs, films, installations, paintings, writing and music. He focuses on the relationships between everyday life and art history. In the 1980s and 1990s he worked with a camera obscura. Graham has exhibited his work in North America and Europe for more than thirty years. He represented Canada at the 47th Venice Biennale in 1997. His work is found in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Centre Pompidou in Paris and other museums. Graham continues to live and work in Vancouver.
