Biography

The Master of the Hersbruck Altar, presumably from Bamberg, is named after the former high altar, circa 1480, from the parish church in Hersbruck, Middle Franconia (now in the Germanisches Nationalmuseum in Nuremberg and the Hersbruck church). His identification with Wolfgang Katzheimer the Elder, who operated a painting and carving workshop in Bamberg from 1465 to 1508, is disputed.
