Lelio Orsi (born in Novellara? in 1508 or 1511; died in Novellara in 1587), training circumstances unknown. In Reggio Emilia from 1536 to 1546; escaped to Novellara under the protection of Count Gonzaga following a murder charge; 1553 briefly in Venice, 1554/55 in Rome, where he apparently was influenced by Michelangelo. Painter of sometimes bizarre compositions; also worked as an architect.
