Baldassare Peruzzi (born in Siena in 1481; died in Rome in 1536), trained in Siena as an architect, from roughly 1503 in Rome; architecture and painting of the banker Agostino Chigi's Villa Farnesina; 1520 architect at St Peter's, also involved in projects of the Raphael workshop. After the sack of Rome in 1527, master builder for the Republic of Siena until 1534; systematic study of architecture in antiquity.
