Giulio Pippi, called Giulio Romano (born in Rome between 1492 and 1499; died in Mantua in 1546), entered Raphael's workshop around 1514 or 1515 (?) (a prior apprenticeship with another master is postulated). Involved in all of Raphael's painting projects, and after Raphael's death he directed his workshop with Giovanni Francesco Penni. In 1524 he was summoned to Mantua as court painter and architect (Palazzo Te; residence).
