Andrea d'Agnolo, called Andrea del Sarto (born in Florence in 1486; died in Florence in 1530), trained in Florence. In 1508 member of Florence's painters' guild; shared an atelier with the painter Francabigio. Beginning in 1509, painted major fresco cycles (SS. Annunziata; Scalzo; Poggio a Caiano); 1518 went to France at the invitation of François I (returned 1519); his balanced compositions are distinguished by a rich, restive colouring.
