In 1919, Hann Trier's family moves to Cologne-Sülz. In 1933, he has a stay in France. From 1934 to 1938 he attends the Art Academy, Düsseldorf. He becomes acquainted with Bernard Schultze. He travels to Italy in 1937. In 1946 he settles in Bronheim, near Bonn. In 1950 he visits Karl Hartung in Paris. In 1952 moves to Medellin, Colombia. From 1955 to 1956 he is a guest lecturer at Hamburg's arts university, the Hochschule für Bildende Künste. From 1957 to 1980 he is a professor at Berlin's Hochschule für Bildende Künste. Starting in 1967, he has an atelier in Castiglione, Tuscany. In 1968, a retrospective is shown at the Haus am Waldsee, Berlin. In 1972 he moves to Mechernich-Vollem in Germany's Eifel region.
