Vasari tells us that Timoteo Viti (born in Urbino ca. 1469 or 1470; died in Urbino in 1523) trained as a painter in Bologna 1490-1495 under Francesco Francia; active at the court of the della Rovere in Urbino. Summoned to Rome in 1512/14? by Raphael (frescoes in Santa Maria della Pace). His extensive collection of drawings, with many sheets by Raphael (Viti-Antaldi) was broken up in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
