About the Work

Measuring almost ninety centimetres in height, the roseate spoonbill with its peculiar beak is a cousin to the ibis and at home in the swampy regions of Florida and South America. The somewhat splayed wings in Schouman’s watercolour indicate that he made his drawing from a stuffed specimen.
