About the Work

A hodgepodge of different structural elements and building materials, the markedly picturesque farmhouse seems almost to be a product of organic growth. For the townsfolk who commissioned such drawings, they will have symbolized arcadian country life. Hendrik Meijer was known for the mastery with which he represented the most varied textures in the drawing medium, but also for his especially naturalistic staffage figures.
