About the Work

More painstakingly executed than the other example (cat. 31) from the Galli Bibiena workshop, this drawing is presumably the work of a different hand. Here again, to save time, the depiction has been limited to only half of the architectural space. As the structure was symmetrical, the appearance of the other side was easy to imagine. Drawings of this kind served artists as practice material or bases for their own works, and customers as samples.
