About the Work

The harlequin served Tübke again and again as an identification figure. It helped him, for example, to reflect on the role of the artist and the future of art. Here the harlequin, bound and stiff as a statue, is being carried away as if in great haste. Does the mourning figure at the left weep for the loss and ‘elimination’ of art and the artist?
