About the Acquisition
Berlin lawyer Hanspeter Rabe is a passionate and committed collector of art. In recent decades, he has supported the oeuvre of the painter Eugen Schönebeck intensively and with great empathy. Rabe is thus one of the artist's oldest and most important patrons. Some of the most famous art museums in Germany have him to thank for valuable loans. The Städel Museum is grateful to Hanspeter Raabe not only for the important portrait of Lenin and a large collection of drawings as generous gifts, but also for the three important long-term loans: 'Siqueiros' (1966), 'Young Woman' (1962) and 'The Decoy' (1963), which date from Schönebeck's earliest creative period.
