About the Work
This drawing was initially thought to be the work of a Roman but the ascription proved untenable. Now Antonio Grano, an artist active primarily in Palermo but for a time also in Rome, is considered its author. In addition to the drawing style it was the depiction of Saint Rosalia, the patron saint of Palermo, that led to the change of attribution. Recognizable by her rose-wreathed head, Rosalia is the figure directly to the right of the Christ Child.
