About the Work

The young man encounters us with a self-confident air. His facial features, finely modelled on the brown-coloured paper, exhibit great clarity and earnestness. He makes an alert and strong-willed impression. Gian Lorenzo Bernini is known today primarily as an outstanding sculptor and architect. This portrait testifies to the fact that he also shone as a painter and draughtsman.
