About the Work

In this sketchbook, dated 1869, Ludwig Metz drew only a few landscape and architectural motifs, probably during a trip to Greece. Especially the ruins of ancient temples and the Acropolis of Athens seem to have attracted him there, since he studied them from different vantage points. The drawing of two cuboids, executed in brown crayon at the beginning of the book, is the only motif that stands out.
