About the Work

The sheet invites our participation in the search for a compositional solution to the task of depicting Saint Jerome. It shows us the devout figure’s muscular body in three different poses accompanied by expressive gestures. These are preliminary studies for an engraving for which Agostino ultimately decided on yet another variation not seen here.
