About the Work
Outstretched hands and feet, but without arms and legs, grow out of the oval and are mirrored by it. The head is doubled too: one is turned towards the external, the other towards the internal world. The title ‘Tandoori Satori No. 15’ playfully combines the Indian dish with the Japanese term for enlightenment. As a representative of the Italian Transavangardia, Francesco Clemente merges symbols and styles of various cultures and eras to create a poetic pictorial language, a counterpart of expressive subjectivity to the rational approach of Minimal and Conceptual Art.
