About the Work

Tübke has captured the ethereally beautiful face of this angel on paper with delicate diagonal chalk lines. Yet in the artist’s image of mankind—moulded, as it was, by fate—flawless beauty was unimaginable. And indeed, this angel has also suffered injury to which the scars in the left half of its face bear testimony.
