About the Work

Enthroned on a cloud and borne by angels, the Virgin Mary emerges from the grave and ascends to heaven. The free handling of the lines points to the pictorial invention process. It was not until the second stage that the artist reinforced the contours, thus establishing them as final. The composition bears resemblance to a ceiling fresco by Pietro Dandini.
