About the Work

Calandrucci, a native of Palermo, was very close to his teacher Carlo Maratti, who invested great effort in fostering him. Slow rhythms dominate the drawing. Possibly a design for a ceiling painting, it may have been made to serve as a model for the customer. The bishop depicted here has not yet been identified.
