Rapid, sweeping lines characterize this pen drawing. Simone Cantarini, who is represented by a number of works in the exhibition, was long thought its maker. The formal language seen here, however, with its copious movements and voluminous garments, point to a later date of execution. However, Maratti could certainly have taken orientation from Cantarini and other Bolognese artists whose works he was familiar with.
