About the Work

Clear structure and a concise drawing style: The composition conveys a precise account of the situation. Jacopo da Empoli was one of the most productive draughtsmen of the Early Florentine Baroque. This pen drawing served as a preparatory study for one of the altogether 24 painted scenes decorating the Church of San Lorenzo on the occasion of the funeral services for King Philipp II of Spain in 1598.
