About the Work
Flaring brushstrokes in red, green, blue and yellow: only a tower stands out against the gay and luminous tangle of colour, which turns out to be a park when looked at more closely. Schmidt-Rotluff found this motif in the Frisian spa town of Dangast, where he spent his summers between 1907 and 1912. “Incredible, how glaring the colours are here – an intensity that is not matched by any pigment.”
