About the Acquisition
Michael Werner has worked as an art dealer since 1963, primarily in Cologne and Berlin. With his internationally successful activities he has devoted himself to promoting German post-war artists such as Georg Baselitz, Eugen Schönebeck, Jörg Immendorff, Markus Lüpertz, A.R. Penck and Sigmar Polke – a choice for which he initially faced strong resistance. Beginning in 1982, he was one of the first to introduce the artists long represented by his gallery in the US. He is known for having been an innovative and programmatic trailblazer in the art world.
