About the Work
Salvator Rosa was an impassioned draughtsman whose seemingly inexhaustible fantasy found expression in numerous sketches. Over the course of time, many of his sketch sheets were cut up into fragments by collectors and were reassembled in the late eighteenth or early nineteenth century. Precisely this is one of such fragments. As the stamped “B” indicates, it was in the possession of the English collector John Bouverie. Not all of them are still considered works by Salvator Rosa today.
