Agnolo di Cosimo di Mariano, called Bronzino (Monticelli, Florence, 1503-1572, Florence), was a pupil of Raffaellino del Garbo and worked early on with Pontormo. He was independent by 1539, when he began painting the chapel of Eleonora di Toledo (Palazzo Vecchio); he also produced tapestry designs for the Medici. He is best known for his academically cool-seeming portrait paintings.
