Giuseppe Cesari, called Cavaliere d'Arpino (born in Arpino in 1568; died in Rome in 1640) was trained by his father and recognised very early on (worked at the Vatican in 1582/83); 1586 member of the Virtuosi al Pantheon; 1589 contracted for frescoes in Naples. Repeatedly responsible for the coordination of major decorative projects in Rome; his elegantly composed works employ lush, saturated colours.
