Biography

According to the Bible, Jesus was crucified together with two criminals (cf. Mt 27:38−44; Mk 15:27−32; John 19:18). The impenitent thief who mocked Christ on the cross (cf. Lk 23:32−43) is called Gestas in postbiblical legendary tradition and is usually shown to the left of Christ in paintings.
