Otto Mueller

Otto Mueller moves to Görlitz in 1882 and trains as a lithographer from 1890 to 1894. He studies at Dresden's Art Academy under Professor Eye from 1894 to 1896. He travels with Gerhart Hauptmann to Switzerland and Italy in 1896-1897, then lives in Lieblau and Schreiberau. He moves to Munich in 1898 and briefly continues his studies there under Franz von Stuck before undertaking further study on his own. In 1899, he returns to Dresden. He moves to Berlin in 1908 and meets Lehmbruck, Orlik and Rilke. A summer stay on Fehmarn is documented. From 1910 to 1913, he belongs to the artists' group 'Die Brücke'. He spends a summer holiday with Kirchner in Bohemia. From 1916 to 1918, he absolves military service. In 1919 he has an exhibition at Paul Cassirer's in Berlin. He is appointed to the Breslau Academy. In 1923 he collaborates with Erich Heckel. From 1924 to 1930, he engages in numerous travels, to Hungary, Dalmatia, Dubrovnik, Split, Paris and elsewhere.
