About the Work
Overlapping each other, leaning vertically in a corner in apparent obliviousness, or extending straight across the floor: commercially available carpets have taken possession of the exhibition space. Woven fabrics turn into swathes of colour. They transform the walls, the floor into a canvas that can be walked upon. This gives rise to an abstract space reduced to its essentials: the sketch for a building that doesn’t exist, as indicated by the title. Endless variations in the arrangement make it possible to have constantly new experiences of this work by the Danish artist Simon Dybbroe Møller – and accordingly also of its surroundings, the museum itself. Abstract for a House that is not
oscillates between readymade, installation, institutional critique and abstract painting.
