About the Work

As in the ceiling design "Flora and putti" (Inv.-Nr. 2046), the artist here once again depicted a carefree Flora, the goddess of flowers and spring, in the clouds. Putti are bringing her a basket of blossoms. The sheet of paper has been cut to a form suggesting that the ceiling painting was to be fitted in an elaborate frame. An inscription on the back indicates that Jacob de Wit carried out this composition for the house of his friend and colleague Isaac de Moucheron.
