About the Work

The routing is diagonal, horizontal, vertical. Passengers are being ferried on escalators through the transport tubes of the Roissy 1 satellite system at Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris. The people, spaces and their structures become the focus of Andreas Gursky’s large-format camera as the sum total of their individual occurrences. Instead of using a paintbrush, he subsequently intervenes in his digital records by mouse click, the aim being not to lessen the degree of reality but to increase it.
