The photographers Bernd and Hilla Becher began to teach at the Düsseldorf Art Academy in 1976. They produced a generation of important artists: the Becher class. The students distanced themselves from their teachers in their works, but nonetheless adopted many of their ideas. The 2017 exhibition ‘Fotografien werden Bilder’ (Photographs Become Pictures) at the Städel Museum told of this fruitful charged relationship.
