About the Work

A typical workshop sketch that has the unexpected combination of various motifs to thank for its charm: The putti composition at the centre tells of love; perhaps it served as a design for a ceiling decoration. At the sheet’s edges, on the other hand, we can discern parts of a face and studies of heads. Two of the latter appear to be responding to the boisterous putti: One appears almost angry; the other grins.
