About the Work

The coloured surfaces vibrate and flicker before our eyes. It is impossible to distinguish between foreground and background. In 'Green Zone', Gotthard Graubner dispenses with perspective and nonetheless creates a dynamic effect which becomes denser in the centre of the picture through the changing shades of green. The open pictorial structure recalls the eddies of air, water, earth and fire in the works of William Turner. Graubner's painting is not representational, yet seems to be closely linked to nature. The canvas looks like a detail from an endless cosmos. The artist aims to depict the dynamics of growth and examines the possibilities of making the invisible visible and expanding the image space.
