About the Work
Kate Moss looks unusually unglamorous and unstaged in Wolfgang Tillmans' print. She appears to be listening to the cameraman's instructions before adopting her pose for the photo shoot. Although Tillmans works with artificial light and composes his pictures precisely, they are defined by an "aesthetic of casualness". Since the 1990s, the artist has shown his fashion-magazine photographs on an equal footing alongside other works he has created in an artistic context. Overcoming the difference between the various distribution systems of fashion and art, he presents the various photographs in their own hanging space in the exhibition area. This allows pictures of different formats, subjects and production dates to develop a dynamic interrelation.
