About the Work
This photographic work shows the Berlin underground station from three viewpoints. Each photograph was taken at nearly eye level and can stand alone, but altogether the three constitute one work. Beginning in the late 1970s, photography develops a new self-awareness: the formats become larger, aesthetics and presentation consciously compete with painting. As a student from the Becher class, Hütte is a major representative of this development. He directs attention to the conceptual and serial potential of his motifs. Beneath the sober surface, space arises for narratives and associations.
