About the Acquisition

The 'Girls Only' initiative came about through the commitment of the chairwoman of the Städelscher Museums-Verein, Sylvia von Metzler. On the regularly held 'Girls Only' evenings, she invites women to take part in discussions and in order to collect donations for the Städel. The first events, in 2009 and 2011, were important milestones in the fundraising campaign, which took place on a small scale in support of the Städel extension. In 2012, more than 400 women attended a large-scale evening event to help with the acquisition of a work by an important female artist for the Städel collection. The fundraising appeal enabled the purchase of a significant work.
