About the Work
The miraculous event unfolds as if on a stage. Saint Nicholas of Bari brings three young boys back to life after they have been deviously murdered in an inn by the innkeepers. The execution is characteristic of de’ Pietri’s late work. This pupil of Maratti’s combined fine pen lines with fluid ink applied with a brush. The highlights added in white are meanwhile discernible only in isolated places.
