Kunst nach 1945: Leni Hoffmann
„Das Material ist das Material, der Raum ist der Raum, der Betrachter ist das anarchische Moment" -- mit diesen Worten beschreibt die in Düsseldorf lebende Künstlerin Leni Hoffmann ihre eigens für das Städel entstandene Arbeit „sid" (2010/2012) in unserem neuen Film aus der Reihe "Kunst nach 1945" im Städel Museum. Die im Metzler-Foyer, der Schnittstelle zwischen Städel-Altbau und Neubau, positionierte Wandarbeit besteht aus einer in Rauputz verewigten Schüttung und einem speziellen Autokipplack, an dem ein faszinierendes Changieren der Farben sichtbar wird, die sich je nach Standort des Betrachters verändern. Erstmalig aufgeführt wurde die ortsspezifische Arbeit 2010 im Berliner Projektraum der Schering Stiftung, die das Werk anschließend dem Städel als Schenkung übergeben hatte. Wir waren mit der Kamera bei der Entstehung der wandfüllenden Arbeit im Städel dabei und befragten die Künstlerin zu ihrer Arbeitsweise. http://www.staedelmuseum.de/#youtube

Biography

Leni Hoffmann was born in Bad Pyrmont in 1962. Between 1982 and 1987 she studied at the Nuremberg Academy under the Colour Field painter Georg Karl Pfahler. In her work she alternates between painting and sculpture. She creates site-specific interventions using various mediums, for example electrical cords, rough plaster or brightly coloured modelling clay. In each of them the participation of the viewer in the working process is essential. The artist emphasises that she does not worry about content, but rather plays with materials and spaces. Hoffmann’s works have been seen in numerous exhibitions, including solo shows, for example in 2010 at the Museum Ludwig in Cologne, in 2009 at the 3rd Moscow Biennale and in 2006 at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. She is a professor at Karlsruhe’s art academy, the Staatliche Akademie der bildenden Künste. Hoffmann lives and works in Düsseldorf and Nuremberg.
