Biography

Reinhard Mucha was born in Düsseldorf in 1950. After finishing his training as a blacksmith, he studied at Düsseldorf’s famous art school, the Staatliche Kunstakademie, under Klaus Rinke and Joseph Beuys. He first showed his work in Düsseldorf’s management and economics academy, the Verwaltungs- und Wirtschafts-Akademie. Mucha was seen as an important artist even while a student, and was soon represented in various international exhibitions. His installations, which as a rule have to do with temporality and autobiographical issues, are often made up of documentary material, refuse or objects found on-site. In 1990 Mucha exhibited his work Das Deutschlandgerät (The Germany Appliance) in the German Pavilion at the Venice Biennale, and in 1992 and 1997 he participated in documenta 9 and 10 in Kassel. He lives and works in Düsseldorf.
