Paolo Veronese

Paolo Caliari, called Veronese (born in Verona in 1528; died in Venice in 1588), was trained in Verona by Antonio Badile and Giovanni Caroto. First independent works 1548; from 1553 extremely successful in Venice, but also still active on the mainland; in his religious and secular pictures, elegance and opulent colours are combined with a restrained narrative dramaturgy.
