About the Work
Corinne Wasmuht’s Barrier is a painterly reproduction of a collage. Like Gerhard Richter with his ‘Atlas’, Wasmuht collects photographic source material and sorts it by subject. It is from this stock of images that she produces her glued collages. This painted version shows a spatial situation which rises diagonally towards the back and is structured – but also blocked off – by grids and barriers. The images owes its extremely dynamic quality to the multiplicity of overlapping source images and the simultaneous emphasis on their two-dimensionality.
